True Colours 2012

This is a show that I have curated as a discussion of the theme of colour and the diverse range of ways different artists use colour, or the lack of colour, to accentuate the interpretation of their work. Work was selected from an open call which asked artists to submit work and to explain its reasoning around its use of or lack of colour. There was a wonderfully diverse selection

of work submitted; Abstract, figurative, landscape, industrial, expressionist and more. It was a wonderful experience to have the opportunity to put so much inspiration in one space. As artists today the use of colour is often tied firmly to concept and can become a metaphorical minefield for someone who is beginning on their journey with colour so I hope that this comprehensive collection of style and tone and reasoning may help dispel some of that apprehension. The situation of the gallery is attached to a stage one studio space which I considered when deciding on the theme for the exhibition, I wanted something that would be inspiring, bold and invigorating for the students who may be nervous just beginning this journey. I wanted to show that there are many many different ways you can work as an artist and the most important thing is your own personal conviction.

It is a visually exciting exhibition as well as providing a guiding inspiration for aspiring and practicing artists alike. It is exhibiting between the 2/11/12 until the 22/11/12 in Artspace101 gallery situated within the Plymouth university campus.
